Pijijiapan, Mexico was yet to awake. The still of the lifeless corridors throughout the slumbering city helped motivate our quick departure and, at that early hour, only the faint hum of the Scania tractor-trailers hibernating next to the highway could be heard. The heat and leftover humidity beckoned us to shower our filthy and grease-ridden selves—we passed. There was driving to be done, and kilometers to go. At 4:30am, I woke up the crew, loaded the car and started the day’s journey North, not knowing how far we would make it.
